240d again no start

i get so tired of this.

blondie, car of renegade x, my son and driver(where his post is i don't know) will not turn.

first it died from no glow. he rpl. the no.1 but still no glow and cranking lowered the battery. last nite we rpl. the plugs and reamed the chambers(Gentlemen, Please ream your holes every year, this has been a public service announcemt from the carbon build up in your glow plug chamber foundation). the glow light came on but no start. almost but no start. tried to jump it. no.

today mom hooked the jumpers to the battery cables not hooked to the battery and still no start. i was told there is not much of a starting sound to the car. his battery is at 13v.

i am stumped.

First thing to test is whether you've got 12V at the glow plugs............but.............you already knew that..............

I also note that this vehicle has the "greasecar kit". What's the chances that you're attempting to start it on WVO??

A weak starter perhaps? That was on it's last legs? I once had a 300SD that I swore had a bad engine because it would almost start but wouldn't catch. Finally, after breaking down and buying a rebuilt starter it started fine. Once you flood one of these old diesels with fuel because of bad glow plugs and/or a slow starter they will be hard to start at first. The worst thing you can do is keep cranking it over, injecting more raw fuel into it. I had this happen on my old 300SD once, and when it finally did start , it blew out a mushroom cloud of smoke so large that the lady next door asked if she needed to call the fire department.

slow starter is another thought i have had.

thanks.
