Here is the dilema. Purchased this old girl at a great price knowing the hydropneumatic suspension was toast. Previous owner's son fessed up to using an assortment of fluids to cope with leak at rear strut that fractured at the base to keep car from riding only on springs on cross country journey. System had brake fluid, hydraulic fluid and who knows what dumped into reservoir so all the lines and components are probably not salvagable. She has 275K on the clock with no blow-by due to religious maintenance prior to this adventure so is truly a keeper.
Question is: Can this vehicle use standard HD shocks rather than an entire R & R of the entire original system. Sure, it will compromise the smooth ride of the original TD yet replacing the original system will exceed realistic value of car. Any thoughts or experience?
