300sd front end clunking

Front end clunking on my 82 300sd with 250k miles.

The sound is most noticeable when the car is moving slowly and going over some uneven road. I have looked under the car with the wheels up tried to move some of the connecting joints and bushings but nothing seems to be loose. On the bigger bumps you don't hear the sound. Front ahocks are OK and these would have to be really worn to clunk.

Any thoughts.

Brian

Try checking your guide rod mounts. You will notice them at the rear of your front wheel wells. I had a similar problem, most noticable when driving slowly up my unpaved driveway. Purchased and installed the Guide Rod Mount Kit and problem solved. Not the easiest DIY, but not terrible either

front end clunking 300sd

Hello Will66,

Thanks for your input. To be more specific are you reffering to the track rod links, that go back to the body/chassis from the lower control arm and attach via rubber.

Please advise

Thanks

Brian
