Larger Alternator w123 300d
I plan on installing a Ham radio system in Brownie.
No spark plugs = Quiet reception..... I noticed that she only has the 55amp alternator in it. This may not be enough for the system. I dont want to brown-out brownie so is there a larger altenator out there? I recall saabs use the bosch alternators also. My old 9000t had a 100amp alternator or better. That would be awesome for it if it would fit... George |

You are correct. The Saab alternators are a good fit.

I've got an 80amp unit from a Saab900 on mine.

Diesels are indeed a quiet platform for radio reception. I have a Philips DC-777 receiver in my 300D. The DC-777 has long and shortwave reception in addition to the usual mediumwave and FM bands and cassette (remember tape cassettes?). Any noise you hear will be from your turn signals or window motors...or someone else's gasser.
Why the ACC blower doesn't generate noise I don't know; maybe there's a supressor circuit hidden somewhere. Anyway, reception is quite good with the stock antenna. I'd also be interested in trying a long CB whip as an antenna. Jeremy N6WFO

I'm still looking for one of those 115s at the local pull-a-part, no luck yet
