Thumbs up Expansion Valve, tips/advice?

I figure since I'm operating on my 300SD I'll ask my diesel buddies for some hints/tips/tricks.

Don't try to get all the way in there or you will be extremely uncomfortable.
Adjust the seat to the right position where you can rest your shoulder on the seat and still reach the valve.

Flare wrenches are a MUST. I went and bought a cheap $20 metric set from the flea market to do this. Before you rag on me I only used them once and now their gathering dust in my toolbox.

During installation, try to do the top first. The longer you leave it sitting untight the longer the o-rings have to drop in. Which brings me to my next tip. Use Nylog or something like it to hold the o-rings in place during installation. Nylog is also recommended to create a seal.

Be very careful not to strip the threads. turn the nuts counter clockwise first to seat them then tighten. Go easy until your sure their seated properly.

You can use an adjustable wrench or channel locks to hold the valve. Just don't put too much pressure on it.

Thumbs up

Have std and metric line wrenches already Should I invest in some Crow's Feet?

I have all new green o-rings too...

Any tips on how to flush the evap core out while I'm in there? I recall something about the old valve is used to do this?

I don't think crow's feet will fit in there but they are good to have. Especially for torquing the injector lines.

There is a way to use an old valve to flush from outside the car but I don't know how to do that.
What I did was I got some clear tubing from Ace Hardware and clamped them to the evaporator lines and poured the flush and compressed air through from outside the door.
I forget the size of hose I used but you can measure the size on the new valve or bring it with you to the store.
