What Mercedes Parts From What Models Are Compatible With a 1980 TD Wagon

I need parts for my 1980 TD wagon and am wondering what parts from other models are compatible. Can I use the moldings from a 300SD for a 1980 TD wagon? Does the 300SD have to be post 1980? I know the window switches aren't compatible. Can the window switches on a 300D be used for a 1980 TD Wagon?

SD body parts won't cross over. A TD is the same as a D from the nose to the back of the front doors. Just the hydropneumatic suspension pump, tank, lines are added under the hood.

TD vs D vs SD.

Yeah, basically the same car, mechanically; slightly different coachwork (T/D).

I think the rear brakes are the same for W123 and W126. The 617 blocks, manifolds, and glowplug system are the same for T/D and SD. Maybe the brake booster and master cylinder?

A lot of stuff crosses over, basically.

Jay.

Regulator motors

My main concern is the regulator motors. I have four bad windows on this 1980 TD wagon. Since there really hard to find in salvage yards, I'm going to have to pull the regulator motors and switches from a 300D. How do I test the regulator motors in the salvage yard to make sure they work? Someone was telling me to bring a battery?? What was he talking about exactly? Do you know?

To add a little more precision here:

a 300TD is a W123 as well as a 240D, 300D, 300CD, 280E and 280CE most body parts are compatible except back doors, trunk trims, back windows, and the hydraulic shock (which can be replaced with shocks and springs from the non-wagon variety.
300SD come in 2 varieties: before 1980 (W116) and after 1980 to 1985 (W126)

Underhood the wagons have a special head with an hydraulic pump for the rear suspenssion. if you forgo the hydropneumatic suspenssion, any 3liter 116, 126 or 123 car can donate pretty much everything under the hood to a TD.

The window regulators from a sedan will work in a wagon, front and back. While the rear doors are a tad different I believe, the regulators are the same. I know this because I have the regulator from my 77 300D in my 85 wagon (rear passenger side).

And while you may get the parts to bolt up, never consider doing away with the rear hydraulic suspension. It isn't that complicated, parts can be had used which don't cost that much, and the ride is tremendous with a working system.
Others who have converted are rarely ever pleased with the results. I remember ONE person saying it was "acceptable" only. Not near as good as working SLS.

i think the rear doors are the same except for the window frame.

rear calipers on wagon are slightly larger bore but take the same pads. so be careful there.
