300TDT Euro Brake Question

Hi,
I just recently picked up an '84 300TDT. I also just found out that it's a grey market import from the weird VIN and all the medical stuff in the back. Anyway, I went through all the brakes and ended up ordering caliper rebuild kits for both of the rear brakes as the pistons were seized (hoping they don't need to be replaced - just cleaned up). Well the caliper rebuild kits were too big (as in they were for a caliper with a larger piston/cylinder). They're the only kits anyone stocks for this model (I even called Phil, our hoster). I'm thinking that the Euro wagons used a smaller piston. I can see that they are ATE calipers and they also have the number 35 embossed on them.

So, does anyone know where to find rebuild kits for ATE 35 calipers? Has anyone run into this problem before?

I can snap some photos if that might help.

Thanks.

Your signature does not tell where you are from. You could also check with the stealership, and there are Canadians on this forum. I do not know if Canada imported the US or the Euro type. It would be worth it to check Canadian places as well, if you are close by. Also, do a "Google" search.

On my Goldwing, the only place I can get replacement brake lines is from a company in Canada, since Mother Honda does not make or import them any longer. I live in Texas.

Sorry about that. I'm in the Northeast US. The dealer is a good idea. I generally just count them out because of prices, but maybe I can at least get some info there.

the wagons have a larger bore on the rear calipers than on a sedan from the factory. i suspect your car has had its calipers replaced with the sedan calipers. the pads are the same so it would be an easy mistake or perhaps could have been done intentionally to expedite a repair.

i would send in the calipers and get the proper ones for a wagon.

I did actually notice that to two rear calipers looked a bit different, but I've only given a thorough inspection to the driver side. Once the rain let's up I'll compare them both. I hope I don't have two different sized rear calipers (like the sedan on one side and the wagon on the other)!

if you did, i suspect the difference might not be all that noticable.
