Question I like my 123 better than my 124...why?

It's been a while since I have logged on, but recently I have had some more problems with my 123 wagon specifically with the AC...the saga continues.

But with these problem I keep driving the car, and I love it. I have two diesels one is a 124 and obviously the other is a 123. And for whatever reason I keep driving the 123. My wife thinks I'm nuts, yet she prefers driving it too if the AC is working and between the both us we don't know why...

I had lots of cars and most if not all have been "better" cars than my 123, but for whatever that reason is I feel best in my 123.

Do you know what I mean?

yes,
I have three cars + 1 I can borrow and I like my 123 best.
Others:
'94 C1500 beater truck (10MPG, no AC, but a truck is always handy)
'02 Camry V6 SE, does 135MPH easy (or gets 25+MPG when driven sanely)
'04 Boxter (borrow), yes it's fast and fun.

Out of all of those the boxter can be a real kick to drive, but for a daily driver nothing beats the W123.

Pray tell, why not?
It's actually well designed for it.
The sport suspension is fairly robust.

This is an interesting thread. I've been thinking of a second Benz, for my wife. One advantage of a second 123 is commonality of parts and learning. The more I can do myself, the more I'll save. But the newer cars have their supporters also and I've never driven anything from Mercedes but 123s. I hope a lot more members add to this thread, pro or con.

so true, the best all around auto ever built;
a standout comparable to little..
maybe only a split-window vw bus or vintage fj40 landcruiser.

The 126 matches the 123 well. The 126 is a more complicated car but the modern chassis (read not prone to leaking) with ABS and an air bag is nice. Each exhibits the same superior build quality and the same basic design philosophy. The 123 feels more nimble after driving the 126. The 126, however, is truly the king of the open road.

Because 135 is approaching an extreme speed for a passenger car on surfaces that are not race track quality and I want something that is very, very robust, not fairly robust.

Who said anything about not on a track.
I'm in California! Any idea what that ticket would be like? And the roads suck.
Tires and suspension are rated to 150/165 BTW (don't think the car could do that though).

I've said it before...

For me it would be a clean white W123 sedan,

Simple, stately, elegant, having all those hidden virtues of safety, durability, ti
meless classic good looks, class, all controls logically placed, easy to repair,
spares always available, the model always seen everywhere, all over the world, ageless, timeless,.......

If it was a woman, it would be Jackie Kennedy, in a white sleeveless sheath dress, by Oleg Cassini, about 1962, when she was at the top of her game....

Nothing else even comes close...

mmm yessss

I've driven my uncels 123 coupe, and my grandmas 210 both are diesels. and i think i love my 126 best. I realy want my own 123, because i think it would be a better comuter car, but i like the large size of the 126, and the feeling like it is glued to the road because of the weight, and the wide wheel base. but i can totaly see why the older Benzs feel better to drive. I feel like I'm riding inside of a rock when i'm in both the 123 and the 126. everything is solid, and it feels strong. in my grandmas 210, it felt like being in any other car. it just didn't have the comfort of home feel like my 126 has.

Reading this thread, I REALLY want a CD

I have an old worn out blown headgasket D, but I have never driven it.
I enjoy and really feel comfortable in my 126, but from the way you all talk, the 123 is really a nice car to drive. I may get the engine fixed in my 123, or I may just sell it and find a really nice CD, hopefully with a turbo... nice 83 would suit me fine.
good read, more need to chime in with their car experiances.
John
