Hemmoraging Trans fluid
Crusing along south on 131 today and suddenly I need my wipers, it isn't raining nor is there water on the road. I pull over kill the motor and set my 4 ways. Pop my hood and there is trans fluid EVERYWHERE :disappoin Yep its all over the ground too. :wtf: I am going to pick it up tonight. Any ideas? What would cause such a massive failure. I wasn't losing speed or anything. What happened. Please help me!!!!!!!!

Check the short little hoses that attach to the radiator at the bottom, those are the transmission cooling hoses, I'll bet one split and was spraying fluid up and out and not enough was lost to affect tranny operation (which is GOOD).
Are you in Michigan? US131 is in Michigan....just wondering! |

I went to the mb dealer (actually called them) And the jerk on the phone insisted that he have my vin. I (have it memorized, saw it once and knew it, with me it is like that with some stuff) told him he didn't need to know it. He said "hmphh how are we supposed to know your chassis code. 115 i said. Oh we have those in stock. Call your local dealer. They don't cost much there (64 for two) and if they are wrong it is much easier to deal with them than the internet. The pn# on mine was 019-997-80-82. The new ones come wire wrapped to protect them from road gators (retread) and such. Now if I could only get them off.......

They don't ask me for my VIN anymore, I told them they didn't need it a long time ago. :D
I replaced mine when I changed my radiator in May, they came loose fairly easily....no problem to get them off the radiator, but a slight pain to get them loose from the pipes on the engine....I also have the spring wrapped ones, but I got them online (only $19 apiece...) |
I just had the same experience on the highway. Got the new hoses for 18 apiece. DONT crank on that metal line ... make sure to use a second wrench for stabilization. And my radiator is plastic at the bottom, Careful there too.
