checked out a 1979 300SD this morning
checked out a 1979 300sd this morning. Looked good from the outside. Inside was pretty rough. Anyway a ton of white smoke was coming out whenever I would accelerate. Also when I was going up a hill it wouldn't kick in to the next gear. It was very slow going up hill which is strange because its a turbo. I had a 1980 300SD that went up hills fine. I wanted to buy it but asked him if I could just take it to a mechanic before I purchased it, just to see what I would be getting into and he refused. Anybody know what these symptoms could possibly be?

We really don't know enough to condemn that car. If it's a $500 deal and no rust, it may bear further scrutiny. The sluggishness may be just a blocked turbo boost line off the intake manifold. There are lot and lots of rusty W116s in boneyards with great interiors.......
