I left my sunroof open wanting to keep the car cool since I was going to go somewhere, then decided not to go and stayed home. And it started RAINING and I didn't notice it for like 3 hours, now my interior is totally SOAKED. How do I fix this!?! I toweled up everythg I can and don't have a working dehumidifier

You could leave the car running and put the heat on full blast for a couple hours....I bet it'd evaporate a LOT of water, leave the back windows open a little bit too, so it can vent the humid air....then turn the A/C on full blast (if it works) to dry it out once its all hot/humid.
Thats about all I can think of.... Setting a dehumidifier in there would be a good idea too....probably the best if you could find one.....

It won't stop raining and get sunny until wednesday How about a regular heater on an extension cord instead of running the engine?

Keep the heat low but put in as many fans as you can. It should start to dry once it stops raining and the humidity drops.

A. Portable heaters make a lot of heat in one spot, and can catch things on fire.... B. Most portable heaters exceed the ratings of/and will melt most extension cords (they say right on them "do not use with extension cord") C. Personally I'd not want to leave an electric heater on in my car unattended, I'd be waay too paranoid. Fans would probably be best, but may not be all that effective.

What about getting 400lbs of that silica gel sand stuff and dumping it into the car through the sunroof, then sealing up the car and waiting a day or two? Silica absorbs 8x its weight in water....imagine how dry it'd be!

I too left windows and sunroof open, was planning ong going to friends for MNF. It start POURING. Locally I got it pretty fast. Chemical dehumidifiers work great if its really bad. Take out the floor mats and try not to use anything electrical.

OK, take a good look at my avatar, and guess which solution I am recommending.......
I used a fan to dry the inside of the wagon back when it used to rain around here, and overnight you'd be amazed how much drying it did. I just put it in the drivers floorboard, pointed towards the back, and the air circulates and dries things up. Wouldn't you know I burned up the windings on a perfectly good 1950's era Vornado doing that...... Wasn't related to the circumstance, just it's time to go. You might could come up with a dumber idea than a heater in there, but it would be difficult to think of something...... Oh, maybe a campfire in the floor board.... Quote:
**edit** "B", this thread is a perfect example of our discussion........

How about running a dehumidifier in the cabin? Should relatively low risk of fire with a dehumidifier.

if you decide on using a heater...
DO NOT USE THE TOASTER STYLE!!!
possibly the oilfilled radiator style would be safe... they don't get much above 120degrees. DO NOT USE ANY RADIANT STYLE AT ALL! CERAMIC, TOASTER, PROPANE, etc. John

I'd just leave everything open it will dry out. My car currantly has the garage so of course all my windows and sunroof are down.
Leaving the sunroof open on a new MB is a bad idea, you won't be able to shift out of park! On the old ones, no harm.

hey, youknow they sell those tent style instant carports...
it might give you the break you need for your car, and prevent problmes like this in the future.
they only cost around 100.00, I hope you have MB Tex in there! my poor leather seats are in such ratty shape, rain could only help... if only the sunroof worked. I have a leak in my sunroof seals, and the water drains down the seized shaft, right into the trunk footwell... fun. leave a car parked for 5 years this way. STINKY! and NOTHING electronic but the speedometer still works. cruise is spotty. YUCKY! John

definetely remove the carpets to the bare metal on the floor boards. you need the sound deadening panels to dry out completely or you'll trap water between them and the metal floor. They'll probably have most of the water in them anyway.
