Greetings from Xi'an China

Hi Gang!
We're in Xi'an...arrived here today and will be traveling to see the terracotta warriors tomorrow.

Not nearly as many Mercedes in Beijing as Helsinki but, I did see a stretch 124 with a police light bar bolted to the top...pics posted as soon as I get home.

Later!

The SsangYong Chairman is the W124/210/211 lookalike, I don't know anything about the Maybach one though.

I actually made it to two places along the Great Wall...a very impressive structure but what you see is actually the short, highly-visible sections that were reconstructions started in the 50s.

The Ming Dynasty tomb of Ding is pretty daggone amazing...go see it on the way to the Great Wall.

But, nothing can describe the Terracotta Warrors and Horses. You walk into the building covering pit #1 and immediately see about 2000 figures...and know that there easily are another 4000+ still in the ground. All unique figures too...the undertaking of that one project was probably the undoing of the Qin Dynasty.

I'll be punching my around the world ticket on Oct. 2nd when I arrive back on the west coast....plan to see China soon because the air pollution is quickly blocking the view. Today, Visability in Xi'an was less than one mile...the air is positively furry.

Bejing was a little better becasue they are working to clean up things for the Olympics. But even then we saw blue sky only twice in 10 days.

Don't drink the water and stay away from live chickens.:D

Keep us posted. Sounds like a fun trip.

How much is diesel there? They were the ones supposedly responsible for the high cost of crude.

Cheers,

Bill

R Leo where did you go see the Great Wall? We went to Badaling north of Beijing in December of last year when it was a bit nippy. I made it up two towers before the steps became 2 feet high and the 30F wind was going over 40mph horizonally:silly:

Were they running a lot of diesel in Xian? Everywhere in Beijing and Shanghai is the same Volkswagen Santana 2000 or 3000 runing on LPG. Hyundai Accents and Renaults.

BTW, is your bride Chinese?
