Insurance rates anyone?
well got some new insurance, switched from state farm (150/month) to allstate (122/month) my mom went to get it, because i was working at the time. Just wondering, is insurance cheaper for a 400 series, than a 300? because....
the dumb insurance agent has the car listed on my policy as a 75 400 series with 8 cylinders and 2 doors. i know my mom doesnt know about my car, but i dont know how he could make such a mistake when i sent a card from my past insurer with the year, vin number, make, model, and miles. and he still made that mistake!!!!! any thoughts or ideas on that? |
I found in calling around that some insurance companies have a database that doesn't go back far enough to decode the older short vin#. They have to manually write the policies in this case. If they manually write it they probably use all the defaults rather then play 20 questions. These older policies are usually just liability, so its just not worth their time.

My insurance just went from $68 to $91. Has anyone been calling Farmers and talking about this thread?

Ever see the caliber of "most" insurance agents? If they can't look it up in a book within 30 seconds, they don't want to be bothered. But, every year, without fail, they've got their hand out for the 15% commission check, whether they help you........or not. I will note, however, that I have dealt with one insurance broker who is extremely knowledgable and helpful with how to structure a homeowners policy or an auto policy. His rates are not all that attractive, however. I've beaten him for the past five years by shopping the auto policy with different direct providers (Liberty, AIG, Travelers). |
they shouldnt have had to decode the vin, i had given them my old insurance card that had all the info on their, including make and model, how he confused a 5 cylinder 300 with an 8 cylinder 400, ill never know

Tell your mom. if you have another car insured at prime rate and desidnated as the main daily driver. She could get classic car insurance for a song. I know Grundy's had my 83 300SD covered for a $3,000 replacement cost at a whopping $75 a year:greedy:
Of course your on your own for fender benders and not sure how they price young drivers. |
hmm might be able to get away with that, while telling the truth :) plan on gettin another car (yeah yeah i know, teen with 2 cars) and just usin the benz occasionally (might garage it at grandparents) i really want a station wagon (not an mb mind you) was going to go look at cars today, but if you've seen the weather today, its kinda been flooding here (lex, ky) so ima go monday. been lookin at subaru wagons, escort wagons, etc etc. of course used. somewhere between 70000-100000+ milessince wagons arent really too popular here, should be able to get one from lot aching to sell the wagon (lolz hopefully wont have to put too much of a downpayment down :greedy: )i love le benz, but i been achin for somethin else, but at the same time, not wanting to get rid of the benz.

I pay 51$CDN a month

yes, i would think the insurance may well be a good deal more for a 400e than a 300d. if you think you arent getting the straight poop from your agent you can call another company and get a comparison rate.

I found AIG to be the lowest. I have had State Farm, Allstate and Geico in the past and AIG blew them away. I pay $87 for 6 months,($14.50 per month) for $300,000 BI & $50000 PD, and uninsured motorists.
Hope this helps. |

I pay 275 for 6 months for liability only! |
If a 5cyl is improperly listed as an 8cyl you can bet you are paying more than you should..

Why would I not insure with Grundy?
Pmari My 240 is not my main car. I have a qoute from Grundy with full coverage for just over $100 a year. Why not do it?

If you take it anywhere else other than a casual drive to nowhere, you're not covered. It's a crafty policy and it looks like there are enough loopholes to drive a truck through it. |
