Does the .912/.952 refer to the head?

Om617.91 and OM617.95 are non-turbo and turbo engines.
Yes, they are different. The turbo head has sodium filled exhaust valves to aid in heat dissipation. |

I'm not sure if the valve seats are different.

There is also a different head on the engine in the TD. I think that maybe the head on the 617 they put in the vans was also different but I'm not sure about that.

One possibly being one off a station wagon might have a slightly different code number as there is a provision for a hydralic pump incorporated. Someone out there should know.

a for turbo, na for non turbo. it is just shorthand
simpler than typing out 617.912 and 617.951 and for the TD with the pump in the head 617.952
I would also like to know. I have a newly aquired 79 300TD and would like to transplant my turbo motor in, but the pump on the head makes me pause. I was thinking I could pull the TD na head and put the turbo motor block under it, then add the exaust and turbo to it, and go. BUT if there is a problem or compression dif with them, I may not get that farr. John

ok, just to confirm that winmutt isn't seeing things, I've definitely seen the 617A designation. I think it was military and/or marine application. Must have seen it on http://www.govliquidation.com/
or something. No idea what it means or if it's valid.
