240D won't start after fuel filter change.

i just changed the cylindrical fuel filter in my 240d. after pushing the manual fuel pump to bleed the system for 20 minutes, i tried starting the car. it ran for a couple seconds, then shut off. there is only a couple of gallons in the fuel tank. what am i doing wrong?

I'm assuming you changed the main (large) fuel filter. The large nut on top should be loose when you bleed, so the air can escape and diesel + bubbles will pour out. If no more bubbles pour out, then there should be no more air and it's time to try starting.

Hope you had filled the filter with fresh diesel, and wet the gasket with diesel.

The air had to be purged out.
Or crack open the injector nut to wait for diesel to come out.

It's not necessary to leave the filter loose to prime it. If you have a good primer, just pump it until you hear fuel escapiing the IJP, and flowing in the return. But it sounds like you didn't get a good prime and left the filter empty.

when it starts, FLOOR IT!!! for a long time until it revs up and then rev it a couple time to make sure that it will stay running. worked good for me. I dont know what people are saying about letting air out?? just floor it and crank it. it will eventually come to life
