Accelerator binding
Ever since I had my glow plugs replaced my accelerator binds at about 1/4 throttle. I guess when they changed the plugs they had to remove the intake and throttle linkage. I moved the next day so I couldn't take it back. Now when the car is cold I have to push quit hard on the accelerator to go. If I push hard enough it goes "over the hump" and jumps to 3/4 throttle. It does not hang in this fashion when I let off the accelerator, only when pushing. I noticed it when I picked up the car from the shop. I should have said something then but was in a hurry. Anybody got any suggestions? I have lubed the linkage and the cable with no results. Its seems something is out of adjustment. It seems to lessen but is still there as the car warms up. TIA

Need to change gears on you just a bit. Is it possible your floor mat has crept under your accelerator pedal and not related to linkage at all. This has happened to me.

Are the CC wires getting caught up? Mine were, added some lube and they are fine now.

What are the "CC wires?"

Aircraft wires coming from the cruise control unit that hookup to the linkage.
Oh, you have an 87. Can you duplicate the problem with the engine of by moving the linkage?

Yes
Does the same thing with the engine off.

Maybe they put it back together with something binding. I can't remember if the 603 linkage is similar to the 617, but I know that one of the 5000 mile service items is to check the lubrication of the throttle linkage. Between the pump and the cruise control and the kick down, there is a lot of stuff being moved when you push on the pedal. I know the manual says to use ATF but I use marine waterproof grease and mine is as smooth as silk.

Most of it is hidden by the intake manifold. I could take the manifold off and probably find the problem but I don't want to. It seems strange that it doesn't hang up when returning to idle, only when accelerating. I will go down now and take another close look while someone else pushes the pedal.

I found it!
Apparently when they replaced the manifold they didn't re-install the wire loom(?) that the glow plug wires run through. It was laying on the throttle linkage! It appears to install it properly I need to remove the manifold as the manifold bolts are what hold it in place. I guess I will just wire it up out of the way until I can do it the right way. Thanks for the help I never would have found it without your suggestions.
