Doesn't look that bad.

I'd paint a blue marlin splashing up out of the water on the trunk lid.

All kidding aside, it looks fine. Drive it. I like it better than the taxi tan on my wagon and the ivory yellow on the 240 and they're both factory colors!!

Cheers,

Bill

I agree with what somebody posted to install back the trim and see from there whether you can drive it or not

Personally, it would be a nice color to grow into. Then again, if you plan to sell the car in the future, you'll have to find somebody who likes it too. Did you paint the engine bay as well?

Carrameow,

I kind of like it. It keeps in the spirit of some of the 1970’s colors and it is a friendly color.

Once she’s waxed out I think the blue might grow on you.

Talking Roflmao!!!

Since the color looks uhhh....kind of "sporty", maybe you should just carry the ummm..."sporty" theme a little further?

AMG wheels, spoiler, etc.

Heres some inspiration: http://www.c123klubas.com/galerija/imagepages/image142.htm

Heck, I think it looks fine. I'm kinda with the folks that say it wouldn't be their first choice, but a lot of us have Mercedes in a factory color that wouldn't be our first choice. Not even to mention the ones that are faded, rusted, etc.....
Finish the work, put it all together, and enjoy a freshly painted MB, something many of us will never have.
Uhhh, one question, why does your car seem to sit up so high? I seem to remember something about new springs, was that you?

Carrameow, here's my take:

I agree with the other guys that it isn't that bad. However, I also think it has to look good TO YOU. Clearly you've put in a lot of work on this, and it makes sense to have something that makes you smile whenever you look at it in the driveway. I can tell you in my experience as an artist, the worst thing is to finish a great project and have something be "off" about it. I can't tell you how many times I have finished a portrait or sketch and felt something wasn't right ... people who look at it say "oh, don't touch it, it's fantastic!" but in the end, if I don't think it looks right, I just have to go back and change something. Now sometimes, I go back to fix it and just booger it up more ... and it still doesn't look right, and then it has a giant eraser smudge across one part. But MOST of the time, it turns out that one eye was just wrong, or the uniform needed a few more wrinkles, or the baseball player needed a shadow under him. And the extra time is WELL worth it for me to have something I am thoroughly proud of.
I think the same thing is true for repairs. If it doesn't look right to you, don't settle. I think it looks fine ... but my opinion doesn't matter ... YOURS does!

I will add, though: if you can, leave it for a few days the way it is. Try not to look at it. Try to get it off your mind (if you're like me, you won't be able to, but try). Then go back and check it out again. Sometimes when you work really hard on something, you lose perspective, and it starts to look funny and judgement just gets foggy. If you let it be for a while and then come back and you feel the same way about it, repaint with a tried-and-true color you know you'll like.

Racing Stripes

Hey, if you paint a pair of wide white racing stripes sorta like an old Shelby Mustang GT......the blue is about right......and Petty Blur is a tad lighter than your blue is.......

Hey Carrameow.

Where do you feel your hesitation?? Is it in your gut, immediately every morning when your eyes first come upon your newly painted beauty? OR. . . Does it come from the sides, up around your head, like someone's looking over your shoulder?

My guess is that you already know what you need/ want to do. In my opinion, these cars leave little room to move, they were so refined out of the factory. I mean, American steel has so many design issues that you can't help but tweak it, VW has its own traditions (peace, brother) and then there are the rice burners. If you're looking for a consensus you won't find it here (not on paint color anyway).

Have you seen this ol' rally girl? Got to be one of the finest. (really. . .although these train tracks are a travesty)

Personally, I'd love to see more well-cared for, slightly modified 123's. All we've got around here are non descript beige or grey hulks, with low tire pressure and brake dust.

That color looks like MAACO painted it.

Why are there so many car colors? Everyone will not like the same color. You have spent a lot of time and effort to this point, don't stop now. If it does not suit YOU, stop and sand a little and change the color. Who cares what we think, make it like YOU want it. Good luck.

That is not such a bad color. Any color looks good when the car is detailed and the trim is fresh. Did you just pick this car up? Give us a little history.

At least it is not that light gray color or the light blue. To me those are really ugly colors.

Here is a great link for all the colors. Is your car Surfblue 900 http://www.astralsilber.de/farbcodes/900_surfblau.jpg or is it darkblue 904 (not a great photo) http://www.astralsilber.de/farbcodes/904_dunkelblau.jpg

It could be this light gray. Yuk http://www.astralsilber.de/farbcodes/751_liasgrau.jpg or pastel blue http://www.astralsilber.de/farbcodes/922_pastellblau.jpg

So cheer up. It is still a W123 Benz.
