603 chain tensioner leak
Watch the seal ring on 603 chain tensioners! My brother got it crooked, and his wife pumped out six quarts of oil on the way into town.
Fortunately, she's a sharp gal, and stopped when the oil pressure started to drop (the low level light had come on). Oil EVERYWHERE, but after a trip to McParts (no joy, nothing big enough) and a trip to the machine shop (my brother is a toolmaker working at a gear shop), it's all sealed up. Sadly, I think his vibration problem was the bad serpentine belt. Really bad now, shakes the car terribly at idle, much worse when you turn the wheel.....he put a new chain in. Tomorrow I guess we put a belt on. Peter |
There is an old & new chain tensioner, and they use different size aluminum O-ring seals. Make sure you have the correct seal for your tensioner. The newer/later version is larger diameter and designed to provide a better seal.
