Tow hitch and reciever for 82 300D sedan
Hello all.
Im taking my Toyota 4Runner out of service soon for a much needed body swap due to rust. In the meantime, I'll still need to tow my utility trailer, so I guess Melba (1982 300D sedan, 123 chassis) is it. Im looking for a new or (preferably) used tow hitch, with reciever. I dont want just a ball for the bumper, but the real deal that gets bolted to the subframe. Im not looking to tow much, its a 8x10 trailer for hauling firewood, yard debris, stuff for the dump, etc. Any help or leads would be most appreciated.

Obnoxio,
Consider building one from angle iron to bolt onto the rear frame where the bumper is bolted on. There are at least 2 threads on here that show you how, and I'm right now in the process of building one myself.

I have done much research on this topic. There are three alternatives.
1. Buy one from D'alan for close to $400 + freight. It is made for the US cars. 2. Look for a used one on Euro auction sites. Here is one on German eBay: http://cgi.ebay.de/W123-Anhaengerkupplung-Mercedes-Benz_W0QQitemZ300031888799QQihZ020QQcategoryZ75984QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem freight can be expensive and you have to be careful that you are getting all the part. The Euro units mount where the US car bumper shocks mount and have struts that bolt through the frame rails to tie the hitch to the frame. The electrics will also have to be adapted to work. They have 9 and 13 pin plugs in Europe. 3. Make your own, but to have any kind of strength it must be tied into the frame rails. The euro ones have a gross capacity of 3300 lbs. and a tongue weight of 165 lbs. Good luck with your endeavor.

I sold an '82 300D to one of the guys on this forum he needed for parts. It had a hitch on it. I can't remember his name right now, but when I do I'll let you know. He just needed the engine really.
Edit: Resago is his name. |
