vacuum lines missing
 

On a 5cyl turbodiesel, there are some vacuum lines missing from the sensor on the top rad hose housing connection to motor (thermostat housing?) and from a vacuum connector on the top/front of the valve cover. How do these connect? There's also a loose wire which looks like it would connect to a sensor also on the upper hose housing (not sure though). Where can I get a simple vacuum line diagram, or a picture of a 5 cyl TD engine that shows how these connect.

Could this be causing my coldstart stalling/rough idle problem? Apparently it could also be the cause of why the engine won't shut down sometimes when the key is turned off. Seems like I need to do some vacuum line maintenance!

I believe those are the vacuum lines to the EGR (exaust gas recirculation), an emissions device that fills your engine with soot. I disconnected the lines on mine and removed the black box on the valve cover, and so have many others here.

Gotcha. That makes sense to me know. Guess I won't worry about the EGR either!

It's hard to give you advice on such things...

Yes, there are things you can/should change but first give us a more positive ID for your MBZ! I'd like to make sure you have the correct Engine Vacuum Diagram as a reference and starting point before you start removing components.
