240D sputtering problem

after changing the fuel filter and (finally) bleeding the fuel system correctly, i got it on the road. after about 30 miles of driving, the car began to sputter when i got into my neighborhood on the way home. when i was doing the fuel filter, i checked on the air filter. completely shot. i removed the gasket off the top of the filter housing too. other faults include my exhaust which is about to fall off, and motor mounts which make a terrible knocking noise whenever the car's backing up. i'm just about ready to give up on it. What's going on?

Is that fuel filter singular? Did you change both the canister type and the clear pre-filter?

Sounds like the same thing my 240D was doing awhile back. A good rough italian tune-up and two new fuel filters did the trick.

You could try some diesel purge before final filter change. Also, do a search on "tank strainer". Also, make sure your tank vent is working properly. Again, use the search. It really sound like you might need a full tuneup (not much money, but a little bit of time).

If your car has almost 200K and the little things havent been fixed along the way...Your gona have to fix em. Then you'l have a car that will be a "keeper"
