floor vents

I tried looking for existing threads on this but couldnt find any. The lever {manual climate}to switch from the dash vents to the floor vents is stuck and will only move about have an inch leaving the dash vents permantly on. I would like to have it fully functional any idea's as to why it is stuck?
Thanks,
Mike

You may have a kink in the cable going to the vent lever. Or a blockage where the cable attaches to the lever. Or something is blocking the internal flaps in side the evaporator box. I would guess the cable.

Here is your AC system taken apart. This goes to a 1983 240D ( as well as the 300TD specified pictures). The 79, I think had a different slide lever. But the idea is the same. In the post my black plastic bracket is broken so your setup will be a little more difficult to get to. There is a metal bracket in picture 46. This might be broken or the metal slide area could be broken.

Remove the plastic trim behind the fan and heat knobs and take a look.

If you take the glove box out you can reach up in back and see if the linkage is fouled.
