When I changed my rear rotors last weekend, to looks like it's similar to a regular drum brake setup ((the pads hold the inside of the rotor. I'd imagine if you unhook part of the mechanism just in front of the differential, it would give you enough play to easily pull apart the actual brake setup. You may want to invest in some cheap drum brake tools.

You can get "detailed information" by purchasing the Mercedes service manual CD from 1-800-for-merc.

Not too expensive.

did you try to adjust them? on my 84 you jack up the car, remove 1 lug bolt, turn the wheel to about 11 oclock, and adjust w/ a screwdriver. dont get them too tight, you can burn out a bearing. my chilton (autozone)has accurate enough info on this, same price as the cd, but instant gratifacation.

emerg. brakes bad

The eb's are bare. They need to be replaced. The mechanic at the shop was going to adjust them but he said it was all metal.

Just like doing a drum brake. Order a set of shoes, and go at it. Make sure the cable is adjusted properly, while your at it.
