Studdering and Hesitation

I have a 1995 E300D, during the morning I let it warm up 5 min. It seems to hesitate and studder when shifting to second gear. It does this about three times at each acceleration until Iam at highway speeds. after the car is warm it runs fine. It also is making a clanking noise more than normal. any body have this problem?

Is your clanking noise engine bay or drivetrain orientated?

new glow plugs 3,000 miles ago, new fuel filter, injectors were cleaned when the glow plugs were replaced, Iam going to replace the air filter and check the air intake flaps.

Have the injectors been pop and spray pattern tested after rebuild? How are the filters? Did you do a diesel purge?

What brand glowplugs? I have seen the Autolite ones fail early.

Could even be bad/contaminated fuel.
