Simple Pleasures, Chance Encounters
Ah, the simple pleasures of being a diesel MB owner....
So I'm driving to work, running a few minutes later than usual and therefore stuck in slower traffic. And what should appear ahead in the lane to my right but my exact car....a 2.5 Turbo, some shade dark blue. As I pass on his left, we exchange a knowing glance....I smile as I pass and give him a thumbs up. But then his lane overtakes mine and he is even with me again. He motions for me to roll down my window. When I do, he asks, "What year?" "92," I reply. "How many miles?" says he. "183," I say with pride, "And you?" "91, 282,000 miles," he replies with even greater pride! "Any rebuilds?" "Nope." And we both drive on our way. Many, including, perhaps, my wife, would suggest that I need to get a life. But that chance encounter made my morning!

That is pretty neat, even if I'm not buying the 91 million miles thing. Its nice to see an older MB owner that owns it because they love it and takes care of it. Yesterday one of my friends in a new Hemi V-8 Dodge Magnum got behind me, and then tried to pass. I gave her all she had, gave him a little smoke, and he didn't make it (wasn't that interested in getting around me). I guess the old car told all that gas sucking American muscle a little whats what.

I think meant to say 1 million miles, but with humor.

You know. I've wondered about that. Where I live, Phoenix, I see quite a lot of 123 diesels crusing about. I've often tried catching the attention of the other drivers in a manner similar to the first post in this thread but they always seem to ignore me...

I'm thinking about coming up with a hand gesture, maybe fingers down, splayed out with the ring and middle finger crossed to form an M.
Dunno.

Well there is a hand gesture that would probably get their attention. Although not in the way you mean.

Ha ha, yeah, well, I have to be careful with hand gestures around here (Los Angeles). They might misinterpret and I'll have gang-bangers shooting at me. Even though the engine in my SD is "bullet proof"(knock on wood), the doors and windows aren't-hmmmmmmmm........
