Valve Cover...there has to be a better way....
G'mornin' Folks,
This particular Benz is new to me, so I am just getting around to checking/adjusting the valves. I had not thought much about it, valve adjustment is an easy thing....I ordered a new nalve cover gasket, and some special "custom bent" wrenches....got it together, and ready to do the job.....what a load of stuff is attached to the valve cover!!!! I have read the MB Engine Manual....understand what they are telling me, sort of......I just hate monkeying around with all of that linkage while things are working well.......'85 300D-T...... I had an older 240D some years back and it didn't have nearly the nest of linkage, cams, levers, cable, switch and stuff......ok, the new car has an electrical switch instead of a vacuum transfer valve......but jeezzzzz..... Does anyone out there have an easy method of removing the valve cover, with minimal linkage disturbance?? Thanx, SB

just take a pic of the whole area, then unsnap the linkages that go to the VC... or go to dieselgiant.com and he has the pictorial on how he does it

Perhaps someone else has figured out a way but I think its impossible. The clearance on the cam and camshaft sprocket are tight. You'll never get it off without removing the linkage.
On that note, has anyone else noticed that it seems to be harder to get back on than it is to take off?
