power window question - repair or replace?
I have had ongoing problems with my driver's side power window - will work part way and then grinds and will only continue up or down if I grab and pull up or push down while operating the switch. Found the problem today - the white, plastic gear (2 5/8" diameter) inside the motor is missing some teeth. Is this repairable and is this gear available - can I just pull the gear and replace? If so, how - I'm not sure I see how to get it out.
If not, is my only option to replace the motor? And if that is the case, how do I get the motor out? Thanks much, ryan 1978 300D

Adding a picture - you can easily see the gear in the picture, which I accessed by removing the cover plate on the motor.

Welcome to a Window/Regulator repair project...
Quote:
You have to: (1) Disconnect the glass from the regulator... then (2) Remove the regulator and motor/gearbox... then (3) Repair/Replace the plastic gear or gearbox OR entire motor/gearbox AND (4) Be persistent and don't give up. For me this a tough, time-consuming project. In my case it was the semi-circle gear on the regulator that had stripped out. (5) Be sure to replinish/make sure there is a good supply of grease inside the gearbox. |
