Rear Wheel Bearings

Have ordered new rear wheel bearings, rotors and pads. I know the order for installing the brake components, but what is involved in replacing the rear wheel bearings. Replaced the front bearings, rotors and pads and it was very simple indeed. Smooth as silk now, but the rear needs attention. Any hints?

Wheel bearings?

Do these things really have rear wheel bearings?...and they wear out or need replacing? Hmm, I suppose I ought to have a good look at mine after almost 25 years...

Seriously, This is the right place to get great guidance...I can't help as I need to learn more about this operation too!!! I need to look at the design drawings or shop manuals -where are the best links?

HEP, Somebody HEP!

Thanks in advance!

I have a 1984 300SD, in fairly decent shape with 186000 miles. Have done a lot of work so far and am near the end of going over the entire car and repairing what needs attention. Hopefully it will get thru the winter with out any problems.

rear bearings are a PITA, but not impossible to do.
do you have:

a FSM?
a dail indicater gauge-stand?(harbor freight has a cheap one)
a wheel hub puller?(free rental from autozone or checker)
a press, for outer bearing?(i took mine to a local parts house w/ a machine shop-$10)
a 12" length of allthread and many washers of different sizes(to pull the assy back together)
one of these http://www.zdmak.com/wbstore/main.asp?ACTION=PROD&TYPE=&CTMP=1&CAT=&SUB=&PROD=MK-0207&Search=&LowCt=0&PG=
cause you wont get anywhere without it.

and lots of patience, as well as some good mechanical ability, and a little luck.

Id say if they arent broke, dont fix them. and if you only have one benz, and aren't planning on starting a fleet, take it in to be done by a pro who already has all the tools
