Price for starter

The local Pull-a-Part charges $11.31 with a core charge of $3.05 unless you want to get the warranty in that case it is $13.30 plus the core charge. I don't know what the warranty is, most likly if it don't work you can exchange and pull another one? Good Luck

Talking Thank You WhiskeyDan

.
One of our members gave me the name of a rebuilder in Sherman TX.

Auto Lec Rebuilders

Price for brushes $15.50

Price for spot welding them into place, free.

If I wait a day for him to combine a larger order together so the freight will be cheeper.

Sounds a lot better than

NAPA at $195

Oriley at $120

AutoZone at $120

Thanks again WhiskeyDan

And thanks to everyone that responded.

Unitll next time. I bid you peace.

so if you get brushes that need spot welding, try befriending the guys at batterys plus or something similar. they have spot welding machines that they use to rebuild // attach wires to, batterys when they rebuild battery packs. . . . never hurts to ask...........

David H, good ideal, it would have never occured to me but you are right. Their assembly spot welder for nicads packs etc is in the proprer range I believe. For the guy to throw in free spot welding was a nice gesture for the originator of the thread. On the otherhand he probably has a customer for life now. Really thought those days were almost gone. Glad not totally it seems.

Rich C-

Good news, but I don't quite understand what he is going to spot weld. Are you sending him your starter or brush subassembly?

Rick

.

Yes I will be taking the starter to him disassembled.

Two of the brushes are spot welded to the stator and two to a carrier that holds them into place and is connected to ground.
( or something like that, it has been a while, someone here probably knows better than I do )

If I don't get too lazy I might take some pics

Nice to know that somewhere (Srerman TX) you can still find someone to do a simple personal service at a more than reasonable price. Not many of those guys left, or at least, I haven't found many.
