Shattered Fog Lamp Lens

Sometime in the last 3 days on the road I lost the right fog lens to a stone or fragment of asphalt.....there is so much repaving going on in New England..and so much road debris!

Just this last Saturday I had the E300TD jacked up and was doing a quick inspection while changing the oil and noted how sand blasted/ pitted the fog lenses were. I also thought that it was pretty remarkable that nothing more devastating had happened since they were in a very vulnerable postion. I guess I assumed they were made from Lexan or something shatter-proof.

The glass fragments left inside the reflecter cup indicate the lenses are tempered glass. The bulb still works.....

I have not had a chance to pull the unit out yet since I am sitting in a Hotel...but does anyone know if just the lenses are replaceble or do you have to buy the whole fog lamp unit?
Cheers,

If it is a factory or Bosch fog lamp, the lense is usually replaceable. You can buy some lense protectant plastic that you can custom cut to the size of your lamps. It helps protect the lamps from rock damage.

F18,

I shattered the yellow fog light bulb cover on my '87 126. I went to my MB dealer to get another and it was not available separately. They wanted $135 for the foglight assembly. I refused to get ripped off that bad.

One of the good Mercedesshop members had an extra yellow bulb cover and sent it to me. Maybe U can be as lucky if U put out a part wanted post.

Thanks,
I just did a search on Phil's site here and found the replacement fog lenses.
So my next step is to pull the unit when I get home and see if a lens is all I need.
I have had just a run of bad luck the last few months with stone chipped paint, a cracked windshield and now a shattered fog light lens.
Other than that the car has performed perfectly......

W210 lense is about $25 retail.....

I smashed one last winter. Dealer had a left, but not a right. One day later, I was back in business.
