I'm looking for the constructional elements of the machine. All I find in the forums is speculation and anecdote and punk teenage kids doing acceleration tests. I'm interested in more than, "does it have a dipstick"? Example: how does the EGR arrangement work, How does the engine management system work, Cruising RPM, Piston and cylinder constructionCharge air, cooled how?,Real Stuff, Not anecdotal..
Thanks

Sounds like you need to buy the FSM.

There are a couple of members that have them; not too many postings as they are mostly still under warranty and folks are not trying to fix them themselves.

I think what TM said is key ... it's not that no one wants to help, it's just that most '05 owners aren't digging around in their engine compartments yet. I know shamefully little about my '05 Jeep CRD because it's under warranty and I don't want to void it.

Have you tried buying a brochure for the 05 model? There are usually tons of these on eBay. I actually found the 87 sales brochure very educational as far as the sort of things you describe. Brochures often outline the emission system, injection system, engine construction as well as suspension, etc., and provide the most useful cut and dry specs.
