Tomorrow, when it's light out, I'll post the rest of my pictures and the pinouts on the connector.

Sorry it took forever...

Pin 21 is the MAF feed that you will wire the contact leads from the relay into with the band on the diode pointed towards the ECU.

Pin 35 is the signal to the relay coil. The wire is snipped and the open end going to the EGR modulator is left unhooked.

The other line to the relay coil goes to the red/green power lead going to the k40 relay in the ECU box.

Here's an updated schematic:

I did the mod today and went for a good ride on the highway too. No codes... works like a charm. Great job Evan! Thanks!

Nice! It was a team effort, your initial work was the inspiriation. I've actually started thinking of the next generation of this mod. I was browsing the Digi-key site and they have a "solid state" relay that might work to completely eliminate all the mechanical components of the circuit. It's a little more expensive at around $12 but that should make it a permanent solution.

I'm also sure that some enterprising electronic engineer could come up with a circuit that would do the same thing with a transistor and a couple resistors but that's beyond me...

I am interested in that solid state relay too. How would that installation look?

It looks exactly like the mechanical one except that it's an inline package.

Will you be making and selling "kits"? The block off and whatever?

If you want, I'll order a couple of the solid state units and if they prove successful, I'll sell you the kit for what I have in it. I don't think there's enough of a market to try and make a profit on them. Today, I'll be looking into the correct sizes for block off plates and I'm also looking into an EGR replacement "tube" that will bolt into place of the EGR. It scares me a little to gut what I presume to be an expensive part and I can just sell the old one on ebay if I want to.

I am in too.

I did gut me egr tube. I do not remember what I closed the ends with but I think I tapped and bolted one side and did the egr copper plate on the other.

Keep us posted with what you end up doing for the egr tube.

Translation to 602 ?

KarTek,

Is it possible to Transmifograte this modification to the 602s ?

Thanks!

I don't want to just cut out all that EGR crap...I wanna keep the Ugly Facts
from the EDS.

Search, there is a huge thread on that subject and this one does not apply to the 602 engine.

OK, I did some checking and here's what I think I'm going to do. I'd really like to do the EGR replacement pipe in aluminum but the required TIG welding causes the cost to mount. Looking at all the other TIG/aluminum welding that I have to do for my other big project, I'll probably just pony up the $1500+ for a decent welder and do it my self. However, I'll have to sell some stuff and save up to get it so it'll take a while - probably more like Spring next year.

However, I'll continue to move forward with the solid state conversion here in the next few weeks and will keep you all up to date on the progress. I'll go ahead and order the components to do 3 unless anyone speaks up and want's more. As of yet, it's untested and just theoretical so keep your fingers crossed!
