Hi sue,
Look for a loose vaccuum line (small plastic tube). Should be a bunch of them on the driver's side of the engine. Also, there should be one going down under your tranny.

Yes, it's nice even to clean the engine and bottom of your car, but when you do this with a HP washer, you are really taking a chance of this very thing happening... and even worse things can result if the HP forces water into somewhere it should never be!

In the future I recommend you soak these areas with " Simple Green " or similar environmentally friendly oil/grease cleaners and then rinse it off with a true low pressure/volume "mist" or "fog" nozzel using only the hose bib pressure. Don't get me wrong, I use the heck out of my HP washer but now you know why I use it very selectively around the engine!
Regards

the ignition problem is most likely the result of a loose vac. hose. Your other problems I'm not sure of. Hopefully, its the same problem.

You might have accidentally sprayed water into the transmission vent. Check your transmission oil for water or irregular color. High pressure water can easily dislodge some of your vacuum hoses.

I can send you .pdf documents of the vacuum diagrams from the M-B factory repair manual. Send a private message to me with your email or just post.

Sue... aka "azbearbear", going forward I would be helpful...

... if you would put your car's vital statistics in your Signature, somewhat like you see at the bottom of this POST.

Let me see if I can pin down which Engine/Tranny control diagram is yours...
... yes... assuming that your 1984 "300DT" is actually:
a 123.133 chassis 1984 300D Turbodiesel with 617.952 engine, then most likely your car's diagram is:
IF "Federal" - http://www.peterschmid.com/vacuum/1977_1985/617_95/1981_1984.jpg OR
IF "California" - http://www.peterschmid.com/vacuum/1977_1985/617_95/1984_1985.jpg

For your sake, I hope it is a Federal MB.

As you start your hunt for whatever you blew assunder using the correct diagram, I would suggest you also take a look at my photo at:
http://ericandkat.com/mercedes/W123VacDoorLockDiag.JPG
which shows how to use smaller electrical "ties" to tighten up the rubber vacuum fittings... at least those that are still soft and NOT outright cracked and hemoraging vacuum.
Regards,

Hi,

I just emailed you the file. It is actually of the EGR system, but shows the connection to the transmission. I dont have a diagram of the transmission, but there is only one vacuum line attaching to it. For your drive/reverse problem, check the bushings and tightness on the shifter linkage on the left side of the transmission.

While you're under the hood, you might also want to put a BB in the rubber vacuum hose connecting to your EGR valve (item 60 in the .pdf). That will keep the EGR valve from operating which should help your power and mileage.

Good luck!
