With a laundry list of repairs, it's nice to have one go easy!
The tach on my 83 300TD has been flaky since I bought it a couple of months ago. It works 5-10% of the time and usually only for a few seconds. After reading about tach amp repairs on the forum, I wasn't looking forward to attemping the de-potting and resoldering method, so this was a repair on the back burner.
I spent Saturday morning at the junkyard scavenging for miscellaneous parts, mostly off an 82 300D donor. I grabbed the tach amp, unsure if the part number was compatible. One of the easiest parts to remove! $5 at checkout (grouped with other "Misc" items.) The part number was identical. I unscrewed the pre-existing one, screwed in the replacement, and I have a working tach for $5! If only all my repairs went this easy. I guess the diesel mechanic gods were in a good mood that day! Now all I have to do is repair the fuel sender and I'll have a fully functional instrument cluster! OT: First full tank of ULSD this weekend during a roadtrip to NJ from MD. $2.36/gal at the Flying J in NJ is about $0.30/gal cheaper than here in Baltimore.

excellent!!
Don't you just love when that important part you need can't really be identified by the untrained eye & is charged under misc.! I'll bet you could've got the blower motor amp or some other high priced item that just looks like a black box for not much more. Great going! Paul.
