83' 300D Oil Leak?

I have an oil leak that coming from the passenger side on the front of the motor? There is also a knocking sound or similar to an exhaust leak sound. I thought MB did not use gaskets? The problem started when the car lost oil pressure do to low oil. Then I replaced oil and now I have a leak. About 4qt/100miles. Oil drips off the motor and everything.

Get a good flashlight and start checking things, sure its not a rod knock? Thats a serious oil loss, check all lines, cooler, with a loss that severe you ought to be able to easily see a very wet fresh trail of oil drooling out somewhere off the engine. Also check filter housing, misplaced o-ring on lid or loose stud can cause leaks. IP on some versions has some plastic oil lube lines to it, check them too.
