Question 1992 300SD reliability?

I am considering purchasing a 1992 300 SD and I was wondering if anyone knows if they are pretty reliable in comparison to the 79-85 W126? I had a 350 SDL briefly (just sold it), and I heard that their motors are problematic, so I wanted to know if it would be a bad idea to purchase a 300 SD with 134,000 miles. Thanks

yup its problamtic, look up "rod bender" and read away!

Id love to have one just for the W140 body but they say the S320 gasser is much more reliable and gets similar fuel mileage.

The real problem is TOO much weight for too little engine!

IF you really want one hold out for a July 1995 or later production S350. All of the engine problems were sorted by then!

Combo is a dud, buy an S320 if you want a W140. The V8 flavors are also very sweet if you are willing to pay at the pump.

The V12 is just sexy.

As said above if you insist on buying a diesel W140, buy a 1995.

It's the same 3.5 liter engine even if it's badged 300.

For the price of a late 95 S350 you can get a really nice S420 or S500 and have enough change for a few to many years of premium gasoline.
