Help!!! Won't Start - No Power

84 300D - I inadvertently (more like stupidly) left the key in the ignition turned on (not running) for a few days (I was replacing the exhaust system). Just got the work done and wanted to start car finding the battery dead. Tried jumping it but no response - like a dead battery.

Checked the fuses but all look ok and none appear to control ignition. Any thoughts??? Thanks.

With a stone dead battery, it's almost impossible to jump one of these vehicles due to the required current that must pass thorugh the cable clamps.

So, you'll have to charge the battery overnight with a charger and see if it will accept a charge. Once they are fully drained in that situation, however, they will never accept a full charge again. Whether it will be satisfactory for you is dependent on how cold it will get when you attempt to start it. In MI, it's probably not going to be acceptable...........

Thanks

Brian, am not worried about replacing the battery as its pretty new from AZ and am sure they'll replace it for free.

I was just worried that I might have fried something by leaving the ignition turned on like that. It should really start being jumped as I was jumping with with the same car (C220) before I got this new battery. Long story but I just got this car after it sat for sometime. Drove it for an hour to home. Plus it started fine with the new battery.

Take it back to AZ and let them charge it for you.

I doubt that you fried anything. The glow plugs go out in 40 seconds and the ignition switch simply remains in the same position as when you normally drive the vehicle. It's just sitting there not running and drawing a small amount of current.

It's not like a gasser where the coil is energized the entire time.........

I actually have a charger but I am not going to bother as the battery is under warranty and they said they will replace no questions asked. As you said, the battery will never be the same anymore so I would not want to keep it anyway.
