what kind of price to put a 617.952 into a 1983 240d 4 speed?

i am going to start calling around locally to find someone willing to do such a job and was wondering what kind of prices to expect.

also, how much is a reasonable price to install new motor mounts on the stock engine?...stock trans?

is there anyone with previous experience with such a job (240d engine transplant) maybe interested in a liitle extra cash?

thanks, everyone.

Location?

I'd guess $1500-2000 for labor at an independent MB shop that's done it before. It takes about 18 hours of actual work to do the job.

I had a new U-joint and carrier bearing installed at the same time.

Why spend all that time and effort reworking the driveline? there are plenty available from the local u-pull-its for around $25, might be in it $75-$100 by time you replace the center support and joint. (If bad on replacement unit)

Or less if you remove and reuse the good parts from your old driveline.

There are no stock driveshafts that will fit a 617 with a manual tranny unless you find a stock euro 300D with a manual.

i am in west palm beach florida...but i welcome any excuse to travel. i flip houses so my schedule is pretty flexible.

so...the 617.952 is not compatible with the stock 1981-1983 240d driveshaft? i thought i had read that they were? so what is the main difference between the pre 1981 240d and the post 1981 240d 4 speed transmission?

i found a 617.952 engine for $900 (200,00 mi.) from a benz mechanic. is this a reasonable price? he wants $2500 for the install and engine. i thought that was a little high so i decided to canvas the forum.

how much should i expect to pay for a complete a/c system for the 617.952?

what is a good website for finding interior pieces? i would like to change the car from palomino to tobacco...if it is possible.

thanks, everyone.

Come up to Washington and I'll put it in for half of that!

$900 is a bit high, you could probably find one from a salvage yard for $500 for so if you spend some time looking. Be sure to see it run and take compression readings if you can.

Can't help with the A/C...I removed the system when I put in the new engine. I'm using the extra room for an intercooler.
