Car lowers when in drive

I'm a relatively new 300d owner, and I haven't driven any other 300d's so I don't know what is normal and what is not. My 82 300d will lower when shifted to Drive from Park or Neutral when I have the brake on.
The car hunkers down like it's ready to take off. I think it kind of cool and ironic when it does that, because it's so slow off the start.
I've been reading posts about motor mounts, tranny mounts etc. My engine mounts look good, but could this be a sign that my tranny mount is in need of fixing?
Just inquiring.

Sounds like typical semi-trailing arm type suspension behavior, torque of the axles turning against the rear brakes. Same deal in 911s and most BMWs. Weak shocks will let it drop more quickly and a high idle will drop it more than normal idle.

Check your rear differential mount-mine needs it too, does the same thing, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything, just another of the 100 things that need fixed on a 25 year old Benz!

Might be as simple as too high an idle. If you have a working tack give us the numbers. If no tach you might want to compare the sound of your engine to another 300d at idle before looking further.

If you really want to scare yourself, put it in reverse and watch the rear end rise up..........

Perfectly normal behavior from an independent rear suspension and an engine with some torque at idle.

They all do that, unless they have SLS.

The best way to see if you need with engine/trans or diff mount is to put it in drive with the hood up and sit behind the wheel and give it a short rev, if the engine looks like it wants to leap out of the engine compartment, then you're in DESPERATE need of motor mounts.....lik me! if I torque it good at a stand still the oil filter housing comes VERY close to the brake booster
a non issue at this time because I don't torque around town like that very much.. and it's of course worse when the torque has nowhere to go....
