Question about alternator on 1979 300CD
Question is there is a 3 wire plug on the back of the alternator I know what that is but there is a single plug that is labeled as + ... The alt that I removed and had tested has what looks like a big resistor, silver in color about 1/2 inch in diameter and 1 inch long it is mounted with a single screw to the back of the alternator. The remanufactured bosch that I ordered does not have this silver resistor it does have the mounting hole and the terminal marked + Question is what is the silver reistor, what does it do, and does anyone know the part number for it.
thanks Walt |

I believe it is a capacitor to help with interference at the radio. The alternator from my '80 240D that I used to have has one. It is a black rectangle. It is rated at 2.2 microfarads (uF) 100 volts max. The part number on it is: 0 290 800 028 Paul.

Radio noise suppressor. Remove it and install on your new alternator.
