broken flex plate at torque converter?

has anyone else had this issue? at first i was getting a loud tick tick tick at times only at idle, now i get it when slowing down as well, turns out the flex plate is cracked 115-032-00-06. i will replace it this weekend.

I have heard of this happening. Check and /or replace the torque convertor bolts. The plates sometimes crack from the torque convertor bolts being loose.

I bought an 81 SD cheap because it needed a new tranny. Turned out it needed a new flex plate too.

Have the tranny checked because any torque converter misalignment will overload the input shaft bearings and front pump.

It's a pretty thin piece of metal. I'm surprised it's not a more common problem.

I've had it before on the 83 CD when my friend still owned it. it always made the tick tick noise untill it gave way one day and shattered, yet ran for a few days more (yes he still drove it, horrendous noise and all) untill it sheared off all the TC bolts, which were the only things letting the engine motion transfer to the trans.
