603 transplant into '91 300TE?

I'm considering putting the complete driveline from a 300D into a 300TE. Is the differential the same? Other than fuel tank, ignition, and electrical harnesses, am I missing anything big here? Need more trunk space than my 201 has.

Before you turn a wrench, ensure that you will be able to register the resulting vehicle. Unless you want it for strictly off-road use, that is.

SLS pump for the rear suspension. Should be available from an 87 300TD.

I would like to hear how this turns out. I have considered it myself.

We don't have emission testing here, as long as the car is titled legally it'll get plates.

As far as the SLS pump, I take it that the gas motor pump won't work? Is this a show-stopper if I had to buy it new? Will the ignition switch from the '87 300D work on a TE? All other vacuum components should be the same shouldn't they?

Since a gas 300TE can be had cheap, and '87 300TDs are pretty hard to find/buy, seems that a thou or so in the conversion isn't out-of-line provided that resale isn't a consideration. Plus, I can find a nicely equipped TE with the later body cladding and bun-warmers.

Now finding a TE which isn't white/blue (dealer service cars) is a little more difficult.

Where is the best place to market my current diesel? Fleabay?

TE and TD have the SLS pump in tandem with the power steering pump. I don't know if the M103 tandem pump bolts up to the OM603.

The key switch won't have vacuum fittings for the engine shut-off actuator. It might be easier to fit the electric switching valve from a 92-up S-class Diesel than fit a Diesel key switch.

From what I've looked, the pumps are the same.

I believe the KLIMA relay and climate control pushbutton assembly are different, as well. I've long wanted to convert a '94-'95 E320 wagon over to an OM603/6.
