Interesting point...I'll probably just put a set of filters on my shopping list too and replace both the main and prefilter when I do the delivery valves...it's been about 25K miles since they were done last anyway.

Well now, in both the 300SD and 300D, there is some weeping of fuel lines. On the SD, the injector return lines are weeping, as well as the line from the inline fuel filter to the IP.
Now, on the 300D, all I see is weeping from the line from the inline fuel filter to the IP, and the line from the inline fuel filter to the steel line. The injector return lines are fairly new, so I'm not expecting any leaks from them.

Here's a thread I started as a sort of follow-up to this one:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=170778

As you can see I not only had leaks caused by the ULSD but the car darn near quit running due to a clogged main fuel filter!

I have begun to see somewhat rougher idling, less power, and more IP clicking noise since the introduction of the new fuel. Came on slow but the car now runs much different than it did a few months ago. I changed the fuel filters out and the water separator cartridge and purged, but the car is still a wee bit rough and the IP is just plain noisy. Does go away when purging. Thinking I'll have to check the valves which I just set back in August, replace all the rubber fuel lines as well as the hard plastic ones in the engine compartment, and pull the fuel tank and have it cleaned out. Lines are weeping at the tank. This situation really bothers me. Car still starts easy however. Once it's done though it will be great.

Down here in Mississippi the staiton where I buy fuel still has the LSD stickers. My question is, is'nt the ULSD supposed to be dyed? What color? Or clear? And does the exhaust smell different? Just trying to get a handle on the situation as winter is almost here in the south too. I keep new filters in the trunk but would rather prempt at the house rather than doing it on the side of the road with cold fingers and a bad attitude!! I have about 6kmi on this filter so don't want to change it if I don't have too.

cap monk, the temp is just a relative thing. Going from 80* one day to 35* the next WILL make your fingers cold. But on the tradeoff you offer, I think I'll pass on those axles. Last ones I messed with were on my 74 280. Not fun. What do you fish? We have a nice stretch of weather for the next ten days so a bit of sportfishing may be in the works.

The new stuff is a very light green color, and smells MUCH less odiferous than the old stuff. Per a Chevron report from MArshall, it has fewer aromatics, which causes it to shrink rubber seals. If they are old and brittle, they will crack and could leak.

My delivery valves started leaking right after starting to use the new fuel, as did the fuel heat exchanger beside it. New seals tightened up the leaks, but I still have not gotten it started yet. Hope I didn't screw up the IP!

Since using the new fuel, my Powerstroke is dribbling fuel at the fuel filter canister drain valve. No leaks on my Mercedes so far.

Just put the first "official" tank of ULSD in mine today. It's been about 15 miles ... so no real report yet.

Just from reading this thread and previous ones, I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to replace the fuel filters after a tank or two regardless of whether I notice a problem ... or should I wait until I see leaks?

Well today I replaced the IP delivery valve seals, shutoff o-ring, all fuel lines and even my motor mounts just for fun. The car is back on the road now and hopefully no more leaks. The new motor mounts really silence the engine, especially at idle.

Poor mileage can be from leaks too...do you park indoors where you would notice the odor?
