vacuum shut-off valve '87 300d - 603 motor

Do I have to remove the intake manifold to replace the valve. Are there any words of wisdom. Thanks for your help.

You can get it out by removing the ALDA and the control rod sensor connector. ALDA removal is described in detail and with pictures in a post by gsxr. Control rod sensor connectors and I don't get along. The bayonet lock forms a very tight bond with the plug. Might be easier to pop the top and pull out the three wires (note positions!), then break the locking collar if you have to. It's highly unlikely the connector will come off without the collar.
