Auxliary fan replacement modification-300SD
The auxiliary fan on my 1984 300SD started making bad noises toward the end of the A/C season, so I recently made a trek over to the local Pick and Pull to get another. Sure enough, there was one there and it was on a 300SD of unknown vintage. I pulled it and set it on my "cart" (wheelbarrow) and proceeeded to the checkout with a few other goodies. I walked past a
500SEL and noticed that it had a significantly larger aux fan than the 300SD. I also noticed that it would fit right into the space of the fan with very little effort. One moves the mount of the new fan over to another hole on the crossbrace and bingo it is in. Probably took 15 minutes from start to finish. Has anyone else made this change? Is there a noticeable change in the A/C system efficiency? Tom

make sure the wires can support the amp draw of the new fan. the larger ones can sure pull some power.
