See over here, there are plenty like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1981-MERCEDES-300TD-RED-DIESEL-ESTATE-W123-MOTED-DRIVER_W0QQitemZ110052578302QQihZ001QQcategoryZ9855QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

However, the seller there is obviously a complete retard. All the faults they list are 'easy' and 'probably simple'. Obviously so easy and simple that he can't be bothered fixing them himself then..... I mean, how hard is it to change the warped disc, or to fix a vacuum leak...

or this:

'odd bit of rust' hehe

My advice would be to keep looking. Car salesmen are bull**** artist, they have to be because thats what it takes to sell lots of cars. I know, I tried being one myself. I didnt like the bull**** game so I wasnt very succesful at it. Try to find one that a private individual has owned for some time, has maintained it well, and has receipts. May take a little while but ther out there.Recently a second owner, low mileage, clean, rust free 300d sold for $2500 two hours from where I live. Owner had all records and the car needed nothing!

Luck is were preparation meets oportunity

Carfax reports a possible odometer problem, says "EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED" in 2004 but I don't see a problem, looks like a state DMV didn't understand 6-digit odometers. Nonetheless, I don't trust used car dealers.

Here's the complete list of DMV-reported events:

Date: Mileage: Source: Comments:

EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED

CARFAX AdvisorTM
An EML title is issued when the owner discloses an odometer rollover to a DMV. Rollovers occur on vehicles with 5-digit odometers that go from 99,999 to 00,000 every 100,000 miles.
Mileage reported after this reading is potentially unreliable.

the engine has no blow by. it was so amazing to see at 194K everything works, however the rear passenger door is off track.

its pretty smooth, it was nice to experiance a turbo diesel. I couldnt hear the trubo spool up though.

it was dirty like it had been sitting a while. and no one knew anything about it

asking price, a wopping 2500$ not including taxt title and liscense.

i considered trading my car in, but after they offered 500$ i was like screw that. then later the guy said the reason they wont come down is because they paid 2100 for it from the guy. i then asked then why are u guys only giving me 500$ for mine? mines a euro. it a 4 speed and it has excelent paint. no rust!!

list of problems include

trun signal light kinda leaning out,
repant done pourly on right front fender,
bumper rubber missing from back bumper
rear window off track
sunroof really slow
drivers seat broken, leans to the right
needs brake job
dent on right front fender
cruise controll dosnt work
windshield looks like it was shot with a bee bee gun
hood lookes a different color
back door looks as though from a junk yard
tires are toast

at 2500 thats just to much, expecially since there not willing to budge. and since the have it on ebay and it looks like it was sitting in the yard for a while. they want to get rid of it. so i dunno, thats the ford dealer.

on a plus not it accelerated pretty good, a little rough shifting between 1st and 2nd and i pointed that out as a problem. but other than that, it was only worth about 1200-1400 period.
i gave my secet away that if they said it was biodiesel ready or could be converted to WVO they coulda made a ****ton

ohh well, ill keep looking for a turbo heh, who knows, maybe they will call me back, since all these bidders for the car have low bid history and low feed back

HAHA
The best thing about *that* car is that it's located near you.

Hold out for a nicer one than this. It has too many issues. There are more around. Plenty nicer than that. It's betterr to pay a bit more and get one a lot nicer and better kept up.

And curb your enthusiasm for any car you are looking at. Either at a dealer of being sold by a private party.

The attitude you as a prospective buyer should project is that you don't really want to buy the car particularly, you might understand cars but you don't care anything about them, you are only looking because you have to, and to you any car is just a hunk of metal, an appliance that you are forced to purchase. Let *them* try and sell the car to YOU.

Ebay cars are another thing. Try to have them inspected by someone you trust before you bid.
