E300 Info reqd

http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/645/shake8xb.jpg

Since I last posted I have consulted my diesel engineer and Merc main dealer regarding my 1997 E300 TD and the problem outlined in the article above.

My diesel man liked the ECU article by Stu Ritter, as he now believes that I have a softwear glitch.

I took the article along and showed the Merc dealer and was surprised that he didn't freeze!
He made enqs and told me that the part no quoted for the ECU was not a part number they knew and was probably a US part number, not British.

I have done other enqs and was lead to believe that any part no that ended 05, was the subject of a recall. He checked recalls and there was not one for this part, neither had my car missed any recalls.

He said I could have a chassis matched exchange ECU! I really can't see how that would be any different to the one I have!. But suggested my car go on their diagnostic tester first. I may well just do that so that when it shows no fault I can say "what the hell is that then?"

Is there anyone out there who can confirm that part numbers are different for USA and GB and that 05 denotes a recall, and confirm the part number given by Stu Ritter are correct, and even where I could lay my hands on one of those ECUs?

Thanks again, John.:(

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your problem, but maybe I could suggest using another forum that has more people with newer diesel cars? There are some here, but I think the majority on this site have W123 & W126 chassis cars. Good Luck.

John, it's likely the ECUs for the USA cars and the UK/Euro cars would be different as we operate under dis-similar pollution regulations. I am a bit disappointed to learn nobody on your side has ever heard of it.

Is there any possibility you could contact someone in Germany, share the contents of the article and have them research it? It sounds to me like you've spent a lot of GBPs trying to sort this and have nothing to show for it.

I can contact my local parts specialist and see what he says. I know an ECU is going to be huge $$$ and is likely to be specific to the region where the derv is sold.

John, one other thing. Is your car referred to as a 210.025?

Thanks.

Thanks all for help so far. Uberwgn, you are not as disappointed as me!!lol
I have spent a fair bit so far having the diesel inj pump and system gone over with a fine tooth comb, and it is now spot on and the problem persists. I will se what I can find out from Germany, not sure how to start, but I will think about it. Looks like someone on here has found out prices for me in USA. The cost here is £905.58 for a new ECU which I assume would have the software update later than 23/99 or a chassis matched exchange ECU at a cost of £682.92. Neither price include VAT at 17.5%.
I can't see a chassis matched one making any difference at all.

You are probably right, one from USA would be different because of emissions, and fuel!

I don't however want to spend out and not correct the problem. As I said I may just try having the car put on diagnostic tester at Merc main dealer just on the off chance that their equiptment picks up something my engineers up to date Bosch equipt didn't. If Merc reccomend the new ECU and it doesn't cure the problem at least I'd get my money back.
Any info you can come up with I would be more than grateful.

John

I looked up your VIN and tried to compare and contrast against my VIN...I suspect your car is referred to as 210.225 Clearly not the same as the USA cars.

Is the transmission on your car electronic or otherwise? We're fully electronic.

John,

Not sure if he can help but try talking to the ECU doctor on UK 01752 346437 or go to www,the-ecu-doctor.co.uk. He is based in Plymouth.
