I plan to find the right hose, but it's good to know what alternatives are available in a pinch.

Thank you.
Any MB dealer should have this stuff on the shelf. I paid $11 for enough to do a 617 about two years ago. But don't skimp on the plug; get the real part.

Gates XL

Anybody else tried this stuff? Does it hold up?

Jay.

Don't know what Gates XL is but the question of whether the return hose will hold up is a good one, if you refer to an engine that requires valve adjustments, because the hose is usually shot by the time the valves need to be lashed.
Its not really necessary to use anything other than the OE return hose on the 617 etc because of this.
In the case of the 603 engines I use Viton return line and should 5 or 10 years on it, time will tell (I won't be driving the car by then!)

The Viton tubing I have on my site (see post above, #5 on the first page) is rated for 400F. This type tubing seems to be holding up very well from the posts I have seen. Several people have had them on for a couple of years and report that they still are in good shape. I just got mine installed so I'll report back in a couple of years...
