Group Purchase of Vogtland Springs, W123........NEED INTERESTED MEMBERS!!!
In the dead end search for 123 performance springs, put in a call to Vogtland NorthAmerica to look into options for a small scale run.
Evidently, there has been some demand for them, and they would be willing to resume some limited production. The magic number is 25, but with 10+ they would be very interested in "further market research".. the bottom line $280-$300 a set. A German-made, moderately lowering (.5-1"), progressive rate spring, with an unparalled reputation. Any takers? |
Wagon springs.
W123 sedan? Put the springs from a W123 wagon in the back, with Bilstein HD's. You won't believe the difference.

Yep.

I would be interested.

I'd like to know more about the wagon option as I have a set sitting in the shop...that was one of my first thoughts....
I put in Ventra 45mm drop springs all around and bought new old stock wagon springs...they are just collecting dust... more info please... Jake |
I'd be interested, very much so! 0.5 to 1 inch is very conservative for those worrying about how to align it after installing them.

I'm just waiting for my springs and shocks to just wear out.......
Then my oil pan can drag the ground..........:wallbash: |
FWIW, SPAX lists spring sets for the W123. My "source" can probably get them for sub-$250. According to the catalog, the drop is 40mm...
http://www.spaxperformance.com/downloads/Springs%20Kits%20pdf/springkits.PDF The problem is, how would they work with the stock 300td leveling shocks in the rear? According to the SPAX folks I corresponded with when I was comparing springs for my BMW E28, their springs are generally 20% stiffer than stock. |

I didn't ask about a timeframe, nor did I ask about the PSX kit given that their catalog says it's only for "W123; 200 - 230 / D (excl. T series)." I'm definitely interested in the springs for my 300td, but again am concerned about them being mismatched to the stock shocks. That's my holdup and the reason I wasn't concerned about a timeframe. My source would probably require a good portion of the $$$ up-front, as these don't fall into what he normally carries and he wouldn't want to be stuck with them. I have no idea whether a group order would reduce either the cost of the part (not likely), or the shipping (maybe). |
Vogtland Springs
the official word is that with a group buy of 15 orders, there would be a production run of 25 sets.
the bottom line is in the $280 range, dependent upon actual purchase. it would take about 12-14 weeks to produce the run and ship from germany. have seen about a half dozen hats in the ring as yet, not including my own two.. so if we could get a handful more interested we would be in business. so between now and the end of the holiday season, please let the voice be heard and we'll come back to this in january. :Peace!: |
Maybe we can get this made into a sticky?

I'm not too smart sometimes
Rudolph -- As you can see from my sig, I have an SD. Unless the 123 and 126 springs are the same, I'll have to pass.
Bill (Who swears he'll no longer post until the second cup of coffee) edit -- Just checked on Phil's site. Part numbers are different. Dang. |
I won't really know till near the end of December, that's when the 2 month fixerup bash starts on the car...
Would these help improve slolom performance? If so I may buy a set irrespective of the condition of what's already on the car. -nB |
When I get a coupe I will def be interested.
