Head lights night driving

Car is a 1979 240d with standard halogen head lights. Do a lot of night driving do these EURO DIAMOND CUT SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS H4 Xenon Headlight Bulbs make a difference

Was not sure where to put this inquiry it and just like all home repairs seem to end up in the plumbing dept I put it to the diesel group.

Thanks Tom Scordato

Go for a nice set of 7" Hellas. You won't believe the difference. Expect to pay 70-90 a pair, and its worthg it.

I would like Euro's but money says other wise, so I'll stay with the Hella's since that is how I bought the car. Both lenses have cracks caused by rocks. $47 a piece to replace.

Any H4 with a good lens is going to be much better than a US spec headlight. As far as broken lenses go, I put a good plastic lens film over my Hella euros, and have no issues with chips or light clarity. It's a good investment, but I don't think you can fit it over a curved 7" lens.

I contacted Hella USA via the web, and they had me contact one of the VAR's.

Here is the contact info...

Ralph,
You may want to go ahead and contact David at the S. Sterling Co. (770) 6322-8755. They should be able to get you squared away. FYI, it won't be just a lens, it will be an entire lamp because they do come assembled like that.

H4 replacements in Canada $85 CAN per pair ($74 US)

If your travels take you to Canada, Canadian Tire sells Bosch H4 lights that are just as good as Hella or Cibie.

$85 Canadian a pair in Canadian Tire stores in Ontario - I just put a set in my 300sd to get rid of the awful Sylvania sealed beams the previous owner put up with.

I got a set of Hella 7" E-codes from Rallylights.com about a year or two ago.

Best purchase I ever did for my 84 Euro 300D (shame that whoever imported it, didn't keep the euro-spec lights). The visibility at night has increased by at least 150-200%, the beams are much more defined, and they were a breeze to install.

ANYBODY with a W123 chassis should seriously consider buying a pair of E-Code 7"s. $75 or so is a cheap price to pay for better nighttime visibility.

You can get the Bosch e-code lights at Fastlane for pretty cheap (around 50 bucks if i recall) and they are infinitely better than the stock sealed beams.
